The earthy smell when rain hits dry ground. Coined by two Australian scientists in 1964, from Greek petra (stone) and ichor, the fluid in the veins of the gods.

A homesickness for a place you cannot return to, or that may never have existed. English has no single word for it, so it borrows this one.

The scent trail left hanging after someone has walked past. Literally, in French, the wake left by a boat.

Dusk, the hour just after sunset. From Old English glōm, a cousin of glow.
